Lady Vikings split two games with Carl Albert
On Feb. 25, the Lady Vikings played two games against Carl Albert in Rattan, Oklahoma. They won the first came 6-5 but came up short in the second game in a back-and-forth game that ended in 6-4 in favor of Carl Albert.
Grayson College defeated Carl Albert 6-5 on Saturday thanks to a walk-off single. The game was tied at five with Grayson College batting in the bottom of the ninth when Shelby Fleming singled off of K McCullan, driving in one run.
A five-run lead in the third inning was just enough for Grayson College to hold off Carl Albert for the victory. Carl Albert scored five runs in the failed comeback on a walk by N Harrison, a single by K McCullan, a single by E Jamerson, and a groundout by K Swindle.
Grayson College captured the lead in the second inning. Grayson College scored one run when Taylor Landrum singled with two outs in the second inning.
Carl Albert knotted the game up at five in the top of the seventh inning. Swindle grounded out, scoring one run.
Grayson College scored three runs in the third inning. Grayson College scored its runs on a home run by Clarissa Peters.
Carl Albert scored five runs in the seventh inning. The big inning for Carl Albert came thanks to a walk by Harrison, a single by McCullan, a single by Jamerson, and a groundout by Swindle.
Grayson College collected 11 hits. Marcella McKinney, Shelby Fleming, Peters, and Jodie Hill each collected multiple hits for Grayson College. Peters went 2-for-3 at the plate as she led the team with three runs batted in.
Jamerson led Carl Albert with two runs batted in. She went 1-for-5 on the day.
The second game began at 3 p.m., and even though Grayson College and Carl Albert both had their opportunities, it was Carl Albert that eventually prevailed 6-4 on Saturday. The game was tied at four with Carl Albert batting in the bottom of the sixth when K Brown doubled off of Kylie Williams, driving in two runs.
Grayson College lost despite out-hitting Carl Albert ten to four.
Grayson College captured the lead in the second inning. Taylor Landrum hit into a fielder's choice, scoring one run.
Carl Albert scored three runs in the third inning. The big inning for Carl Albert came thanks to a single by Branson and an error.
K McCullar earned the win for Carl Albert. She tossed seven innings, allowing four runs, ten hits, striking out three, and walking zero. Tana Davis took the loss for Grayson College. She pitched five and a third innings, allowing six runs, three hits, striking out one, and walking zero.
Grayson College collected ten hits. Shelby Fleming, Samantha Loving, and Jacye Grimm each collected multiple hits for Grayson College. Fleming went 3-for-3 at the plate as she led the team with two runs batted in.
K Brown led Carl Albert with three runs batted in. She went 1-for-1 on the day. Carl Albert didn't commit a single error in the field. E Jamerson had the most chances in the field with seven.
